St John’s commitment to making care accessible never slows down!

 Recently St John teamed up with Hope School to give free eye tests to their learners with physical disabilities. The results were life-changing. Thirty children needed prescription glasses, and now they can see the world (and their schoolwork!) more clearly than ever.

Learners were thrilled with their new glasses, sharing how much easier it is to read, join in class, and get around each day. Sometimes, a simple pair of glasses can open up a whole new world.

Behind the scenes, the Childline Helpline remains a vital support system. Every month, counsellors receive hundreds of calls, many of them about abuse and neglect. 

In one recent case, a small child was discovered near a dumping site, trying to eat spoiled food. Thanks to a concerned community member, Childline was alerted and they stepped in immediately. It was discovered that she and her siblings were living in severely neglected conditions.

Working with the police and social workers, the children were placed in temporary safe care, and efforts began to secure their school enrolment. A caring local couple came forward to foster the siblings, with the full consent of their mother, who acknowledged she could no longer care for them.

Today, the children are safe, loved, and adjusting well to their new home!

This is just one of countless cases that Childline handles every day. And your support makes it possible for them to keep making life changing differences for children across the country.

Earlier in the year, Age-in-Action brought comfort and joy to the residents of Kgolagano Old Age Centre in Moruleng Village. Despite severe storm damage to the facility, Age-in-Action volunteers stepped in to clean, cook, and care for the elders. Fun activities alongside gifted winter pyjamas, slippers, and food parcels helped to lift everyone’s spirits. Three elderly men in especially poor health were also provided with vests for added warmth. Plus a 90th birthday added an especially happy note to the day!

We are reminded of the importance of caring for the elderly, especially in under-resourced communities. Through both advocacy and hands-on support, Age-in-Action continues to champion the dignity, safety, and wellbeing of our elders.
